How to write a CV

Your CV is the first thing our team will see to tell us about who you are, therefore it is vital to have up to date and correct information listed so we know who we’re talking to!  Here are some things you should absolutely be including on your CV:

  1. Name

It may sound silly but you would be surprised how many nameless CV’s we see in a day. Please ensure that at the top of your CV your full name is listed as well as Miss/Ms/Mrs/Mr/Master or any gender indication/pronouns you go by.  This helps our team know who we’re speaking to so we can communicate adequately and respectfully.

  1. Contact details

More common than nameless CV’s are ‘homeless CV’s’.  People forget to include an address or postcode but even worse, any contact information.  If we don’t have a postcode, phone number or email address we have no way of contacting you about an interview so please ensure that it’s included on your application.

  1. A bit about yourself

Your CV should be more than just a factual list of your education and career, we want to hear more about you and your personal achievements! In a few lines tell us about what you love, some hobbies or things you feel like make you who you are. Including a little more about yourself helps us get a feel for who you are and puts personality to the name on the page.

  1. A comprehensive list of previous and current employment

Tell us all about what you did in your previous jobs, we love to hear what you learned in previous roles and workplaces.  Not only is it great to see where you previously worked, its also important to know what you learned as you should constantly be learning and developing your skills in the world of work.

  1. Why you want to work here

Though it is not essential, it can be beneficial to explain on your CV why you want to work in the role you have applied for within this company.  It helps the company see why you are choosing to apply for their job rather than competitors and can look favourable on a CV as it shows you have put research into the background of a potential employer and figured out your why.

If you include all these things we have talked about, you are selling yourself already.  Now we know who you are, what you enjoy, your education and experience and where to find you.  That’s a great first step before getting an interview. Remember, make sure it is laid out neatly and you’ll be all set.
