We all know how important first impressions are, so we want to prepare you from head to toe to leave the best first impressions possible that will leave you stuck in the mind of the interview team.
- Hair
Ideally hair should be clean looking and styled, I don’t think showing up to your interview with bed head would leave the best first impression…
- Teeth
It really should go without saying that you should brush your teeth… I hope that’s something we can all agree to doing everyday. However, make sure none of your lunch is stuck in your teeth before you turn on your camera! It may sound silly but this could save you a few moments of embarrassment if weren’t to have checked.
- Shirt
Your shirt will most definitely be visible to whoever is interviewing you so please make sure you aren’t wearing anything offensive. This means no football/sports tops, no clothing that would portray a political standpoint and nothing that shows explicit language. Also included in this is no pyjamas simply for the fact it looks extremely unprofessional. Please ensure that your shirt does not reveal anything you would not like a potential employer to see..i.e not too low cut but also, make sure your shirt is visible. We don’t want an interviewer to question if you have a shirt on..
- Trousers
While whatever you are wearing on your bottom half may not be visible to the interviewer on the teams call, we still suggest you wear suitable trousers and not pyjamas or sweatpants. Though it may be unlikely there has been several occasions where a laptop has fallen or the interviewee has had to stand up to close a window or a door and in doing so, revealed their hello kitty pyjama bottoms to their interviewer. As I’m sure you can imagine, it was a bit embarrassing when these kinds of things happen.
When getting ready for your interview you need to remember these are people who don’t know you other than your name in front of them. You want to leave the best first impression possible by conducting and carrying yourself in a professional manner. Even though the interview is conducted over Microsoft teams, it is still a job interview and you should show up and present yourself accordingly.
Good luck
